Overview

LI Natives was contacted by referral to prepare a list of appropriate species for a wetland setback requiring native vegetation along an existing sea wall that was to remain on site. The residential site was located within a low lying tidal area where routine flooding occurred. Rather than exhaust needless resources raising the elevation of the seawall the property owner opted to plant appropriate native tidal species to revegetate this area as well as other areas on the property. The end result is a timeless aesthetic that will reinforce the tidal area and negate the use of fertilizers.

Important species used in the wetland tidal zone are:

  • Spartina patens - Saltmeadow Hay
  • Baccharis halimifolia - Groundselbush
  • Solidago sempervirens - Seaside Goldenrod

The owner of the property kept a coastal theme consistent throughout the front yard of the property. The following other species make up the vast majority of the landscape

  • Myrica pensylvanica - Northern Bayberry
  • Ammophila breviligulata - American Beach Grass
  • Panicum virgatum - Switch Grass
  • Andropogon virginicus - Broomsedge
Remsenburg Sparina
