Schizachyrium sco. ‘The Blues’- Little Bluestem

LI Native Stacked Logo 1

Schizachyrium scoparium ‘The Blues’, commonly known as Little Bluestem, is a beautiful native ornamental grass that adds year-round structure, color, and movement to Long Island, New York landscapes.

This upright, clump-forming perennial is prized for its striking blue-gray foliage, which develops rich bronze, copper, and reddish tones in fall before fading to warm tan shades through winter. ‘The Blues’ thrives in full sun and well-drained, average to dry soils, making it an excellent choice for native plant gardens, meadow plantings, coastal landscapes, borders, and naturalized areas.

Highly adaptable and low-maintenance once established, Little Bluestem is well suited to the sandy soils and sunny conditions often found across Long Island. Its strong vertical form provides valuable winter interest and habitat while pairing beautifully with other native perennials and grasses.
