Ilex gla. ‘Shamrock’- Compact Inkberry

9 Inkberry Shamrock

Ilex glabra ‘Shamrock’ is a compact, evergreen native holly valued for its dense, rounded habit and rich, dark-green foliage that stays attractive year-round. This cultivar is more uniform and fuller than the species, making it an excellent choice for foundation plantings, low hedges, borders, and mass plantings where a tidy appearance is desired.

In spring, small white flowers appear and can produce glossy black berries in fall when a male pollinator is present, adding seasonal interest and supporting wildlife. ‘Shamrock’ performs well in moist soils, including areas with occasional wetness, and adapts easily to sun or partial shade. It is deer-resistant, low-maintenance, and well suited to naturalized or formal landscapes alike.
