A small deciduous tree in the Oleaceae family. It is native to the eastern U.S. This plant grows best in full to partial sun with the best foliage in partial shade and the best flowering in full sun. They are best to be transplanted when young and they grow to 6-10 inches each year. In late spring, there are beautiful fragrant white fringe-like petals that appear. Later, in the summer, a blue-black fruits mature which provides a food source for birds and wildlife. In the fall, a clear yellow color appears to show brightness in the fall landscape. This plant is great in lawns and also works well as a flowering tree in a native garden.
